Inter-Faith Ministries is inviting middle and high school-aged youth to participate in the Inter-Faith Youth Challenge
& Provide Food for Hungry Children.

The Inter-Faith Youth Challenge is a friendly competition among middle and high school youth that raises funds to help children in need. Participants can choose events like swimming, running, Mario Kart, Inter-Faith Jeopardy, and others. More importantly, they will have fun, meet others, and help provide food to hungry children.

Teens can participate as individuals or they can form a team with their friends -minimum of three people for a team. Prizes are awarded to the individual and the team that raises the most money. The money raised will help children served by Inter-Faith Ministries. Teens who are unable to fund-raise can still participate by including a $25 entry fee with their forms (link below). Those who send their form in by April 19 will receive a Youth Challenge t-shirt.

Why participate? No child should be hungry. There are over 30,000 children living in the Wichita area who experience hunger on a regular basis. The neighborhoods that surround the Inter-Faith Ministries campus are home to nearly 900 children whose families live at or below the poverty level. When schools are open, these children receive a reduced cost or free lunch at school, which for some is their primary meal for the day. When school is out of session these children are hungry. Funds raised during the Inter-Faith Youth Challenge will provide lunches for these children during spring and summer breaks. For every $38 raised IFM will be able to provide a lunch to 10 children in our area.

IFM Hosts Humanitarian Awards Dinner on August 22, 2013

Sometimes, perhaps not often enough, we stop to recognize the good things that happen in Wichita. Those good things happen because of people who are inspired by their spirit to serve their fellow man. On August 22, we will celebrate these unsung heroes who share their time, talent, and/or wealth to help the people in our community. They achieve remarkable things without asking for anything in return. Acknowledging their gifts to others and this community is very appropriate.

Inter-Faith Ministries is honored to be able to restore the tradition and is committed to building bridges among all faiths, to serve as one, to meet the basic human needs of others, promote justice, and relieve misery. Honorees are nominated by their peers and colleagues of our community. This year’s Honorees are:
Star Lumber Company – Golden Rule Award
Timothy Relph – Light of Faith Award
Paul and Margaret Miller – Peace by Piece Award
Dear Neighbor Ministries & Sister Ann Catherine Burger – Spirit of Faith Award
Randy and Suzy Storms, posthumous – Leadership through Faith Award

2013 Dinner Chair - Jorge Martinez, JR Custom Metals

My father believed in giving people another chance and providing a helping hand to those in need. The value of a helping hand in a time of need is priceless. No matter what our economic circumstances may be today, we never know when we may become the person in need. When able, we must help others.
Inter-Faith Ministries does remarkable work in bringing people together to help those in need. For these reasons, I am honored to be the Chair for the 61st Humanitarian Awards Dinner for Inter-Faith Ministries. Please join me in support of this important community event.

Raising Hunger Awareness

On Super Bowl Sunday we look forward to munching down Super Bowl food and having fun with family and friends. These are great times and we should enjoy them.

It’s also a good time to take a moment to remember that there are families in Wichita who are not as fortunate. In fact they would be relieved to know there was enough food in the house to feed their family in the upcoming week. We hear about the hunger in our community but most of us rarely if ever see it, which makes it too easy to forget. Hunger does exist and it can be as close as your neighbor next door or a family only few blocks away.

You can help. Souper Bowl is held annually the Friday before Super Bowl Sunday. Souper Bowl helps to build awareness of hunger in our community and encourages people to do something to help. Inter-Faith Ministries provides food to the hungry year-round. Funds raised during Souper Bowl help make that possible.

Mark your calendar on the Friday before the first Sunday in February and join us for a bowl of soup, or several, there will be many delicious soups prepared by Wichita’s best chefs, you’ll want to try them all - First Presbyterian Church, Wichita. Or you can make a donation here right now. Why wait, help is needed year-round.
